A Shocking Weekend!

I literally mean shocking. My brother came over to install my garage door opener for me. I have had it for about 5 months now sitting in the box waiting as waited for my brother to install it for me. He came to my rescue this past weekend. He was a trooper since it was a very hot, sweltering weekend and sometimes he had to work in the garage with the doors closed. Let me tell you it got HOT in there! He stuck it out all day before he called it a day with his promise to come back the next day to finish it.

The shocking part for me came early on in the day as my brother started to install my garage door opener. He needed more light in the garage as he worked with all the doors closed. I grabbed a lamp I had sitting in a dry place in the garage since the move and plugged it into new of my many garage outlets. In doing so I got the shock of my life. The electricity went straight up through my hand to my shoulder. I popped the GCI outlet. I rally do not think this should have happened since this is a new house. Now I am a little concerned the wiring is not right in my garage. I have a call into the electrician.

But I am happy to say I now have a fully operational garage door!! Woohoo! No more parking outside in the elements! My brother came back on Sunday and finished the installation.

Mom and I worked out in the yard all day Sunday except of course the one trip we made to Home Depot. I used to dislike going to this store, but now I actually enjoy it. I spent $100 there. I bought 4 rose plants for the price of 1. The best part of the weekend, my mom weed eated the entire yard! I have the best Mom! I planted one rose bush and did some other yard work until about 8:30 pm Sunday evening. All in all it was a great weekend. Pretty low key but rather nice.

My "New" Couch! Finished at Last

I am done at last with the job of recovering my couch at long last. I wish I had taken some before pictures because it was off white and looking a bit worn and tattered. The fabric on my newly recovered couch only set me back a whopping $200 plus about another $100 on staples, thread, pillow forms and new stuffing. So I think I spent about $ 300 to $ 350 on recovering my $1200 couch that I bought approach 11 years ago. I received a quote to recover it for $1200 to 1500. The fabric is $30.00 a yard fabric I bought at $5.00 a yard on sale. I guess now I really need to paint the walls in the living room to warm up the place.
My MOM did an AMAZING job on recovering the base with me! Without her help I would have never taken on this task at all.
When I find the right color fringe trim, I will re-sew the back pillows to apply the fringe trim.

Now to find a find a plum or eggplant colored rug to go with this couch. There are actually lots of colors in this fabric that you do not really see in this picture. Purple/a rich plum color and cranberry red look great with this fabric. I love color and I want to make some cranberry red colored silk curtains, but I have a few other projects right now to complete.

thanks for looking!

Sigh of Relief

That last two days at work have been about the worst ever. Beyond me getting fired or laid off which that would have made it the worst day ever for me, these last two days have been pretty darn close! My company went through layoffs. It wasn't that fact that we had them, it was how we found out about them that made them so aweful. Men are stupid! Enough said. I cant' say how we found out, due to threats of lawsuit. It was wild crazy, exhausting and very sad today as people were let go. I absolutely hate days like this. HATE THEM. I wish there were other things that could have been done beyond letting people go especially since we have been hiring people like crazy these past few months, but I am no manager and just maybe I don't see the big picture for the company. I am thankfull and blessed it was not my time.
I absolutely LOVE my job. I work for a great group. I pray I am around for many more years.

All I can say is bring on the Margarita's because I certainly need one about now!

A Call at 1:38 AM

So I am fnally sound asleep this morning, when I get woke up by a ringing phone. No one ever calls me at that time except wrong numbers. At first I think I am not going to check who called, it has to be a wrong number, but then I think what if it is an emergency call from someone in my family? I better check the caller ID. Outside it was pouring! It had not rained around here in 6 weeks and it was coming down hard so maybe someone was in an accident or something. I did not recognize the number so I listen to the voicemail. It was the city Police Dispatcher telling me my front door was open if it wasn't my garage door. Well I knew it was not my front door since I had to pass by the front door to get my phone. I un-alarmed the house and check the garage door. Nope sound shut, so I call the dispatcher back. I advise the police they called the wrong house.
With two houses with the same street number and nearly the same street name, my fear had come true. The police called the wrong house in an emergency. I just knew this would happen one day. Why wouldn't the police get it wrong? Every one else does. I still get my neighbors mail. So when I call back, I tell the dispatcher he called the wrong house. He must have meant the other house and goes "OH no you are right!" How comforting is THAT? Let alone what a way to get woken up! "Mam your front door is open in the rain". And why didn't the police go out and check on the house in person?! I mean a neighbor did call in the open door situation to the police!
Ahh Life in a small town in Texas!
